General:
Mount Magnet was first discovered in 1854, but it wasn’t until gold was found in the 1890s that it was developed. Mount Magnet was named after a hill comprised of magnetic rocks.
The main industries of the area are pastoral and gold mining. The well known ‘Hill 50’ gold mine is located at Mount Magnet and at present is operating two open cuts.
There are limited alluvial areas to explore with detectors.
