History: The town of Bindoon is situated in the centre of the Chittering Shire and was one of the first areas outside of Perth to be settled. As early as 1835 the Chittering Valley had been explored by George Fletcher Moore. Moore and Brockman took up titles some time later but the first houses in the area were not built until around 1850
General: The town today offers facilities including a public park with excellent amenities, bakery, service station and Visitor Information Centre, including hot showers and toilets. Also in the township is a supermarket, hardware store, medical centre, café and several B & B’s.
The Chittering Tourist Association invites travellers to visit their beautiful valley and experience the breathtaking country lifestyle, only one hour from Perth. Follow the Chittering Wine Trail Valley, which is dotted with sculptures and painted power poles. The Trail starts in the heart of the valley and winds its way north through Bindoon and onwards west to Gingin. This citrus and wine growing area has excellent accommodation, wineries, views and activities.
Ten kilometres north of Bindoon is the Catholic Agricultural College. East of the college lies the huge hardwood forest known as Julimar. There is a huge variety of wildflowers and maps are available at the Chittering Visitor Centre. The annual Wildflower Show is held in September and the Agricultural Show in October.
